Week Eleven Reflection

  • Rate and explain your overall week:
    • I would rate this week a 3. It was a tough week. There is a lot of stress with EdTPA Results coming back soon. I am learning to enjoy this tough process!

  • Respond to these questions to end your week:
    • Observe: What pleasant surprises/accomplishments did I achieve this week?
      • I am getting better at classroom management. I am also proud of myself for how well I stay on track with our daily schedule. I make sure that we stay on track at ALL times!
    • Reflect: What did my work/experiences teach me that I will build upon next week?
      • I learned that teaching does not always have to be stressful! Let it be FUN! Have fun with the kids! I constantly joke with my kids (at the right times) and it truly makes them all laugh! Even my kiddos who are more serious and never crack a smile have begun to laugh at my jokes!
    • Focus: How are my short-term efforts aligned with my long-term goals?
      • I am working on learning everything I can from my CE now because I think she is wonderful and my long-term goal is to be a great teacher like her.
    • Be productive: What could I have spent more or less time doing?
      • I could have spent more time completing assignments, however, I was burnt out. I needed a break. I did what I had to do to care for myself and now I am working on getting back on track work-wise. I could have spent more time caring for myself in the past to avoid this burnout.
    • Have courage: How did apprehension and indecision impact what I did and did not do?
      • I have not really been apprehensive about anything lately! I FEEL WONDERFUL! I am happy with myself and what I am doing. I have learned to take this happiness and run with it instead of letting negative thoughts take over in my brain.
    • Begin Anew: What is the first logical step for next week?
      • The first logical step is to lesson plan and print all of my materials.

  • What were some data you analyzed this week?
    • I analyzed iReady math data so that I would know exactly what my students are working on during math remediation.

  • What is one piece of advice you wish to share with other student teachers?
    • Take care of yourself! Students do not need a perfect teacher; they need a happy and healthy one. The rest of the teaching process will come on its own!

  • NC Teacher Candidate standards:
    • Standard 1: I demonstrated teachers leading the classroom as I am currently student teaching and leading the classroom.
    • Standard 2: I demonstrated treating students as individuals by looking at individual student data and behaviors when praising, correcting, and addressing behaviors, activities, etc.
    • Standard 3: I demonstrated aligning my lessons to the NCSCOS as all my lessons were standard-based.
    • Standard 4: I demonstrated planning instruction that was appropriate for my students as we did things that they were developmentally ready to do.
    • Standard 5: I demonstrated teachers analyzing student learning throughout the week with the data from iReady Math.

  • Others:
    • What components of your EdTPA and portfolio have you started to complete?
      • I am working on getting together my global awareness lessons. I had a little mix-up understanding with this, but I am fixing it now.
    • What support does my CE need from my US right now?
      • No support.
    • What support do I need from my US supervisor right now?
      • Patience and positivity, which I always receive from her!

I love the comment you wrote, "Students don't need a perfect teacher, they need a healthy and happy one." I love that! Don't ever forget it!
